Seisan Kata - New Video

A new video that I did of the Seisan Kata. (I did one of the Seiuchin Kata, but upon viewing it, I can see a LOT of things that are in need of correction, so I'll continue working on that one, until it's looking better.) There are things I can improve in my performance of the Seisan Kata too, but it's looking and feeling a lot better than it did, four months ago. :-)

  1. Very nice, Frank! Some very clean movements in there. :) I'm STILL working on my Wooden Dummy form but ah well, I'm getting there.

What helps me improve is more mental than anything else. I try to stay focused on each individual movement: what it's used for, how it's supposed to work, etc. It's easy to just go through the motions but then we don't learn anything when we do. :/

    Keep it up!

  2. Right on! Thanks, Jimmy!

Critiquing my own performance, there's one place where I almost mess up, when I first turn to the left. My back foot, in the last third of the kata needs to be pointed more forward, and less at an angle. Always another step, something to hone and improve... :-)

  3. Nice kata Frank!

Years ago, I attended a seminar taught by Hanshi Nick Adler. He was teaching drills, tunfa and bo. As an Okinawa Kenpo practitioner, I had a tough time with the vertical punches.

  4. Thanks, Michele! I like the vertical fist, because with the thumb on the top of the fist, it really seems to lock the wrist. I had a difficult time when bringing the fist back to the obi, because I wanted to turn it knuckles-down, the way we did in Wadoryu. The fist stays vertical, rather than supinating it, in Isshinryu.
